Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks and gathering with loved ones over a delicious meal. While I’m looking forward to this holiday, I know that it will look and feel different this year – as it likely will for you, as well.
This week’s Thanksgiving holiday is an opportunity to reflect on our many blessings. It’s easy to feel grateful when life is good, but what about difficult times? I like what Robert Emmons, Ph.D., a professor of psychology and author of many books on gratitude, has to say about this:
“It is precisely under crisis conditions when we have the most to gain by a grateful perspective on life. In the face of discouragement, gratitude has the power to energize. In the face of brokenness, gratitude has the power to heal. In the face of despair, gratitude has the power to bring hope. In other words, gratitude can help us cope with hard times.”
Especially at this time of year, I reflect on the gift of gratitude given to me by my daughter Samantha who is now in heaven. This gift has transformed my life beyond measure, giving me an even greater appreciation for the people in my life. It has turned everyday moments and even potential stressors into rich moments of joy and thankfulness. Gratitude is a powerful key that unlocks true happiness.
As we stand together in the fight against COVID-19, gratitude is an important coping skill. With a grateful perspective, I am able to see that adversity is bringing out the very best in so many people – including healthcare workers on the front-lines, essential workers keeping our country moving forward, and communities finding ways to support those who are hurting.
I’ve also seen so much good within Staffmark Group. In the face of uncertainty, I’ve witnessed strength, perseverance, and optimism. I want to take this opportunity to thank all members of the Staffmark Group family. To our internal staff and talent, thank you for your commitment and dedication. With all the challenges you are facing, I know that it hasn’t always been easy to come to work each day. You’ve proven that when we work together, anything is possible. To our clients who have continued to put their trust in us, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve you and meet your staffing needs. We value your partnership.
I wish each of you a happy Thanksgiving and upcoming holiday season. Please stay healthy and safe as you move forward with a grateful heart.
